Will My Insurance Go Up if I File a Roof Claim? (The Truth for TN & KY Homeowners)

One of the biggest questions we get at Division One Roofing is: "I have hail damage, but I'm afraid to file a claim because my rates will skyrocket. Is it worth it?"

It's a valid fear, but here is the truth that insurance companies don't always broadcast:

1. It's an "Act of God"

In both Tennessee and Kentucky, insurance companies generally cannot single you out for a rate increase based on a "No-Fault" claim. Storm damage (hail, wind, lightning) is considered an Act of God. Unlike a car accident where you might be at fault, you didn't "cause" the hail in Hopkinsville.

2. You're Already Paying for It

When a major storm hits Middle Tennessee, insurance companies often raise rates for entire zip codes to offset the total risk. If you don't file a claim for your damaged roof, your premium might go up anyway because of the claims your neighbors filed. You'd essentially be paying for everyone else's new roof except your own.

3. The Cost of Waiting is Higher

A small hail hit today becomes a major leak next year. If you wait until the roof is leaking to file a claim, the insurance company may deny it due to "neglect" or "lack of maintenance." Filing promptly when the damage occurs is the best way to protect your investment..
